Jordan will play a singer from Brooklyn with a tendency toward self-destruction.

The singer/actor was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for his work in "Newsies" this year, but was beaten out by "Once"'s Steve Kazee.

Since wrapping its maiden season, "Smash" has been in a state of  upheaval, starting with the departure of creator/showrunner Theresa Rebeck. Following Rebeck's exit, cast members Raza Jaffery, Jaime Cepero, Brian d'Arcy James and Will Chase left the series.
