Universal Pictures and Jason Blum's Blumhouse banner are developing a sequel to "The Purge," TheWrap has learned.

Written and directed by James DeMonaco, "The Purge" grossed $36 million this past weekend on a budget of only $3 million, making a sequel even more appealing.

However, "The Purge" currently has a 41% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while reviews from top critics are only 21% fresh.

The horror-thriller stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey as parents whose heavily-fortified home is broken into by a group of wealthy young people participating in an annual 12-hour-long ritual during which time all crime is legal, including murder. 

The film is contained to one suburban neighborhood, so a sequel could explore the mayhem on a larger scale.

After undergoing an edit since its debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Fredrik Bond's stylish thriller "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" has been acquired for U.S. distribution by Millennium Entertainment, which will release the movie later this year.

Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood star as young lovers Charlie and Gabi, whose budding romance is threatened by a vicious gangster (Mads Mikkelsen) who has already laid claim to Gabi and has no intention of letting her go. Charlie is then forced to enter the violent Romanian underworld in order to protect her.

"Red Dawn" star Josh Peck is in talks to join Al Pacino in Dan Fogelman's directorial debut "Imagine," TheWrap has learned.

Based on a true story, "Imagine" finds Pacino playing an aging musician who is prompted by an old letter from John Lennon to give up his rockstar lifestyle and reconnect with the son (Bobby Cannavale) he has never met.

The all-star supporting cast includes Jennifer Garner as Pacino's daughter-in-law, Annette Bening as his love interest and Michael Caine as his longtime manager.

Peck is making a deal to play a hotel valet who Pacino encourages to go after the girl of his dreams.

"The Internship" star Vince Vaughn and his "Couples Retreat" director Peter Billingsley are set to reteam on "Term Life," Universal's adaptation of the graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman that was published by Image Comics.

"Term Life" follows Nick Barrow, who specializes in planning heists and tricks before selling them off to the highest bidder. When one of his heists goes bad, everyone involved wants him dead, from mob bosses to contract killers and corrupt cops.

Vaughn will star and produce through his Wild West Picture Show banner along with Victoria Vaughn and Micah Mason. Production is tentatively scheduled to start in January 2014.
