Cynthia Nixon Sails ‘Big C’ Arc

“Sex & The City” star will appear in four episodes of the upcoming Showtime comedy

"Sex And The City" star Cynthia Nixon will be returning to premium cable TV with a guest spot on Showtime's upcoming cancer-themed dramedy "The Big C."

Nixon will play a long-lost college roommate who resurfaces in the life of series star Laura Linney for four episodes. "The Big C" will debut Aug. 16 at 10:30 p.m. following the sixth-season premiere of "Weeds."

Nixon isn't the only ex-HBO star who'll be guesting on "The Big C."

On Jun. 9, Showtime announced that Idris Elba, who played Stringer Bell on "The Wire," will be making a similar four-episode guest appearance.

Along with Linney, "The Big C" stars Gabourey Sidibe, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the 2009 film "Precious."

"The Big C" was created and written by Darlene Hunt, who is  executive producing the show along with Linney, showrunner Jenny Bicks, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon.

The show's pilot episode was directed by Bill Condon, who — in addition to directing upcoming "Twilight" installment "Breaking Dawn" — is also currently at work developing HBO's "Tilda."
