Well, Jon Stewart handed John Oliver his show for the summer and what does he get in return?

“Daily Show” head writer and co-producer Tim Carvell is leaving the comedic news show to become the showrunner and an executive producer for John Oliver‘s untitled HBO series, a network representative told TheWrap.

Carvell joined the Comedy Central show in 2004 as a writer. Over the last 10 years, he has won seven Emmys for his work there.

Oliver’s HBO series was announced in November. Airing Sunday nights, the weekly comedy show will present a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events.

This past summer, Oliver distinguished himself admirably hosting “The Daily Show” while Jon Stewart took a hiatus for his directorial debut. HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo cited his hosting run as a reason for greenlighting the new series.
