The Daily Taps Variety’s Tom Lowry as Business Editor

The former BusinessWeek editor was tapped by the Hollywood trade a year ago to ramp up its New York presence

The Daily has tapped Variety’ Senior Editor Tom Lowry to be the tablet-only publication's business editor.

Lowry has been at Variety for a little over a year, having been hired to strengthen the Hollywood trade's financial coverage and to help it re-establish a New York presence.

At the time of the hire, group editor Tim Gray said Variety “aggressively pursued” Lowry.

Prior to joining Variety, Lowry was a media editor and senior writer for BusinessWeek.

In a memo to staff obtained by The Huffington Post, The Daily's editor-in-chief Jesse Angelo wrote: "[Tom] is an excellent journalist and a great guy and we're thrilled to have him aboard.
