Dalai Lama: ‘MasterChef’ Guest Judge (Video)

The Tibetan spiritual leader ate the food but refused to disparage the contestants’ work

What is the sound of one hand clapping? We have no idea.

What we do know is that the Dalai Lama appeared as a judge on Monday's edition of "MasterChef." Well, the Australian version, anyway.

The show's producers stunned the contestants with the announcement that they'd be cooking for the Tibetan spiritual leader. But they needn't have felt any pressure, as the Dalai Lama turned out to be the world's least intimidating judge.

"As a Buddhist monk it is not right to prefer this food or that food," he said.

The Dalai Lama's most critical comment about the dishes he was served was that the contestant who served undercooked gnocchi had "tried their best."

Check out his performance in these admittedly poor-quality videos we found on YouTube. While watching, try not to feel embarrassed about how much more multicultural the Australian version of "MasterChef" is than the U.S. one.
