Starring Zhang Ziyi (“Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"), the movie retells the sensual French thriller about sex and betrayal, adapted by director Hur Jin-ho.

The Chinese version sets the tale of scheming and seduction in 1930s Shanghai.

The original film, adapted from Christopher Hampton's play, marked Stephen Frears' Hollywood debut.

The remake will be released in the United States this fall, an individual close to the project said.

Ying Ye of Eastern Light, the Asian division of Arclight Entertainment, handled the sale, which is co-represented by producer Cassian Elwes.
