Alexandre Aja’s latest finds a North American distributor after post-production headaches
Dimension and Radius-TWC have sprouted “Horns,” picking up U.S. rights to the Daniel Radcliffe thriller that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival for a 2014 theatrical release.
Based on the novel by Joe Hill, Keith Bunin’s script follows a regular guy (Radcliffe) who sprouts horns after he’s blamed for the death of his longtime girlfriend (Juno Temple). French horror maven Alexandre Aja (“Piranha 3D,” “The Hills Have Eyes”) directs.
Though considered one of the bigger Toronto titles, “Horns” was no critics darling, scoring a gouging 45 percent on Rotten Tomatoes; Variety senior film critic Peter DeBruge wrote that it “suffers from a case of overall silliness.”
The producers had a hard time getting the film to the screen, as the financially struggling visual-effects studio that was working on it, Montreal-based Newbreed, had to ship out the finishing work as it failed to pay its talent.
WME Global negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers.
