‘Dark Knight’ Christian Bale Thinks Batkid Is ‘Fantastic’

The “Out of the Furnace” and “American Hustle” star approves of the latest person to bring “The Dark Knight” to life

Christian Bale‘s Batman days are behind him, but he was touched by Batkid’s San Francisco exploits just like the rest of us.

“Wasn’t that fantastic?” Bale said while speaking to Vulture on Saturday. “I looked on the news and I saw this headline and thought, ‘What’s that?’ And I saw all the pictures of him running around and saving people. It’s so touching.”

Bale brought up 5-year-old cancer patient Miles Scott during a Los Angeles press junket for his newest film, “Out of the Furnace.”

“He must have been bewildered,” Bale continued. “Hopefully, later on, he’ll be able to look back and say, ‘Oh my God, how amazing.’”

“It tells you so much about the human spirit and how so many people care about that young boy,” Scott Cooper, the director of “Furnace,” chimed in. “In times of great crisis and peril, with that young boy going through what he’s going through, we band together around him. That’s what makes this country great.”

A number of Bale’s peers, including fellow DC Comics crime fighter Stephen Amell (“Arrow”), have taken to Twitter to voice their support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s efforts to allow Scott to be his favorite superhero for the day. Bale, however, isn’t active on the social media website.

“I’m so far behind the times when it comes to things like that, I’m a dinosaur,” Bale said. “I’ve never been on Twitter, but how great a thing that it can create something like that! I mean, wonderful. This little kid, oh my God — what a wonderful day for the little fella! It’s just fantastic, seeing all those people who were out there to support it.”

So there ya have it: One Batman actor down, about a dozen more to go.
