Warner Bros. has canceled appearances by the cast and filmmakers of ‘‘The Dark Knight Rises’’ in Mexico and Japan in the wake of a shooting in which 12 people were killed and dozens injured Friday during a midnight screening of the movie.
Actors Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon Levitt will no longer hold press or red carpet events on Monday, which were to be held at Mexico City’s National Auditorium, according to a Warner Bros. spokeswoman.

A premiere in Paris was also canceled Friday.
Meanwhile, in Aurora, Colorado authorities were preparing a series of "controlled detonations" in the booby-trapped apartment of James Holmes, the 24-year-old student accused of going on a shooting rampage in a crowded movie theater during a showing of the new "Batman" film, police said.
Dozens of law enforcement officials were gathered at the suspect's apartment, who officials believe booby trapped his home with what appear to be sophisticated explosives before going on the shooting rampage.
Police have evacuated five nearby buildings and created a perimeter of several blocks around Holmes' apartment, the top-floor unit of a three-story red brick building in a run-down neighborhood.
Photos of Holmes' apartment, taken by a camera raised up to the third-floor window, showed jars of ammunition on the floor and "things that look like mortar rounds," said Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates. There were also bottles filled with an unknown liquid as well as what appeared to be trip wires laid out across the apartment, he said.
Police declined to say what, if anything, Holmes said to them following his arrest. During an emotional press conference on Friday, Oates would not comment on possible motives for the massacre that stunned the nation.
