‘Dark Knight Rises’: Man Arrested With Gun, Knives at Ohio Screening

"Dark Knight Rises" theater-goer allegedly brought a 9mm Glock and multiple knives into theater

Police in Westlake, Ohio, arrested a man Saturday who allegedly brought several weapons and ammo into a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," a police spokesman told TheWrap on Tuesday.

Scott Smith (pictured), 37, was carrying a satchel containing a 9mm Glock handgun as well as ammunition clips and multiple knives.

Smith aroused the suspicion of the manager at the Regal Cinema when he arrived for a Saturday night showing of the latest Batman film with medical supplies in his bag. An off-duty police officer working at the theater also got suspicious and approached the manager.

The officer pursued Smith into the theater, where he was the only one who had yet to arrive for the showing, and discovered the weaponry in his bag. Smith also had a knife on his person.

Smith does not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, police told TheWrap. Smith claimed that he was carrying the weapons for his own protection, police said.

A search of Smith's home Monday disclosed more weapons and "a substantial amount of ammunition," the police spokesman told TheWrap.

Smith is still in custody, and charges are still pending.

Smith's arrest comes a little more than two weeks after a man killed 12 and injured dozens of others during a midnight screening of the movie in Aurora, Colo., on July 20. James Holmes, 24, has been arrested and charged with 24 counts of murder and 116 counts of attempted murder in relation to the massacre.
