Darren Aronofsky to Head Venice Film Fest Jury

“Black Swan” director won festival’s top prize three years ago for “The Wrestler”

The Venice Biennale has chosen "Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky to head the jury at the 68th Venice Film Festival, organizers announced on Wednesday.

Darren AronofskyAronofsky won the festival's Golden Lion award three years ago with "The Wrestler," and was also in competition in 2006 with "The Fountain." Last year, "Black Swan" served as the festival's opening-night film.

Aronofsky's other films include "Requiem for a Dream" and "Pi."

In a release announcing the choice of Aronofsky, the festival praised the Brooklyn-born director by saying, his work "constantly engages the evolution and mutations of the many languages of art."

This marks the second year in a row that Venice has chosen an American director to head its jury. Quentin Tarantino headed the Venice jury last year, when the Golden Lion went to Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere."

The festival begins on August 31 and runs through September 10.
