Comedy Central’s Next Roast Victim: David Hasselhoff

“I have always been a major fan of roasts … I’m ready to take the heat”

David Hasselhoff is about to be the butt of even more gags.

The current "America's Got Talent" and ex-"Baywatch" star — who is a bona fide superstar to millions of Europeans and a borderline joke here in the U.S. — will be the subject of "The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff," which tapes in Los Angeles this summer for airing Aug. 15.

Thanks to his moonlighting as a schlocky pop singer and a battle with alcoholism that resulted in several unintentionally hilarious viral video clips, the actor has become an ironic culutral reference in the nine years since the end of "Baywatch's" long and profitable 11-season run.

But he insists he's maintained a sense of humor about his punchline status and says he's ready to be roasted. "I have always been a major fan of roasts, dating back to the days of the 'Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts,'" Hasselhoff said in Wednesday's announcement of the show. "I'm ready to take the heat."

Comedy Central senior VP of specials and talent Elizabeth Porter said in a statement she expects that Hasselhoff will take a beating: "By the end of this year's roast, this pop culture icon will surely see that no slow-motion run or life preserver can save him."
