David Lyle Upped to National Geographic Channels CEO

Veteran executive will also oversee the company’s global programming

David Lyle has ben named CEO of National Geographic Channels U.S., the company announced on Thursday.

He will also oversee the company's global programming. 

Lyle will now ride herd over a suite of channels including National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo Mundo, all of which are co-owned by Fox Networks Group and the National Geographic Society. 

Lyle was formerly the head of Fox Look and Fox Reality, but for the past several months he has had an interim post leading development for National Geographic's West Coast office. He went over to National Geographic after News Corp. shuttered Fox Look and converted Fox Reality to Nat Geo Wild in 2010. 

He also earned his stripes at "American Idol" producer FreemantleMedia and Pearson Television.

"David brings extensive creative experience and a strong international perspective to this critical role," Tim Kelly, president of the National Geographic Society, said in a statement. 

National Geographic Channels president Steve Schiffman will report to Lyle, who will now be based out of Washington, D.C.
