David Semel Hopes to Direct Episodes of Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’ for FX

"House," "Homeland" director says he may handle episodes after del Toro-directed pilot

Veteran "House" and "Homeland" director David Semel says he hopes to direct episodes of Guillermo del Toro's much-anticipated FX project, "The Strain."

FX hasn't yet picked up the show or even shot a pilot for the series, based on the vampire novels by del Toro and Chuck Hogan. "House of Cards" star Corey Stoll has been cast in the lead.

But "The Strain" looks like a likely pickup for FX, and the plan would be for del Toro to shoot the pilot and for Semel to handle some later episodes.

"I'm not completely sure that this is 100 percent certain, but it looks like I'm going to be doing a project with Guillermo Del Toro on FX later this year," Semel said during a HuffPostLive segment. "He's going to do the pilot and then I'll come in and do the first couple of episodes after him. … The pilot script is really great. So we'll see if that works out."

The two-time Emmy nominee has a full plate: His recent projects also include TNT's "Legends" and CBS's "Intelligence."

Del Toro's robots vs. monsters saga "Pacific Rim," meanwhile, begins screening at midnight.
