SAG to Honor Betty White

Betty White will be given the Screen Actors Guild’s lifetime achievement award, which honors career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.

 

The 87-year-old actress comedian will be feted Jan. 23, when SAG conducts its 16th annual awards telecast, which will be broadcasts live on TNT and TBS.

 

“Whether creating some of television’s most indelible characters, plunging into film roles with joyous gusto or perfecting the art of the quip as a television panelists and host, Betty White has entertained audiences with her impeccable comic timing and remarkable with for more than 60 years,” noted SAG president Alan Rosenberg in a statement.

 

“Her lifelong devotion to the welfare of animals, manifest in her work as an author, producer and philanthropist, is further evidence of her tremendous humanity and meaningful contributions in so many important areas. Screen Actors Guild is honored to celebrate Betty White’s extraordinary achievements over the course of an exemplary life.”

 

White is currently working on the set of Disney’s “You Again,” co-starring alongside Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver and Kristen Chenowith.

 

She recently appeared two other Disney films -- she was Ryan Reynold’s grandmother in “The Proposal” and she had a voice role in Hayao Miyazaki’s animated “Ponyo.”
