Whitney Houston's first album in seven years debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. pop album chart, making "I Look To You" her fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.

The new disc sold 304,801 copies during the week ended September 6, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The new album also fared well in Canada, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, where early returns show it will also debut at No. 1.

Over the past two years, under the personal guidance of long-time Houston mentor and industry executive Clive Davis, the album has been the beneficiary of huge investment and high hopes with an A-team of producers and songwriters such as Alicia Keys, another Davis protégé, Diane Warren, David Foster, R. Kelly and Akon assembled to help the singer hit all the right notes and demographics.

Houston's last album, "Just Whitney," debuted at No. 9 in 2002 with 205,000 copies.

In 1993, the Houston-heavy "The Bodyguard" soundtrack spent 20 weeks in the No. 1 slot and sold 44 million copies worldwide.
