Oprah Winfrey may star in HBO Films' adaptation of Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Ruined," the Oscar-nominated actress' representation at CAA has confirmed to TheWrap.

Set in a brothel in war-torn Congo, the play follows the struggles of its madam, Mama Nadi, to keep herself and the women working for her from getting caught between the government and rebel armies.

The TV movie is being developed as a potential starring vehicle for Winfrey, who has not offically signed on to star yet.

Nottage is writing the script and Winfrey will executive produce with her Harpo Films president Kate Forte.

While Winfrey has lent her voice to several movies in recent years, including "Charlotte's Web," "Bee Movie" and "The Princess and the Frog," her last onscreen appearance in a feature was in Jonathan Demme's 1998 drama "Beloved." Winfrey remains attached to star alongside Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock in Universal's untitled feature comedy from "Sex and the City" writer-director Michael Patrick King.

Winfrey's casting was first reported by Deadline.
