The Academy is sometimes criticized for always opting to give its sound awards to big, loud movies, but the Cinema Audio Society did the same thing when it announced the nominees for its annual awards for sound mixing on Wednesday night.

The nominees for the motion picture award at the 46th Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing are "Avatar," "District 9," "The Hurt Locker," "Star Trek" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

The February 27 ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles will also salute director Henry Selick, and give its top honor, the CAS Career Achievement Award, to Randy Thom, the director of sound design at Skywalker Sound.
