Following the lead of the Oscars, the Golden Globes have recognized the strong year in animation by expanding the number of nominees in their "best animated feature" category to five.
A new rule from the Hollywood Foreign Press specifies that the category will have five nominees any time more than 12 films qualify and three nominees if between eight and 11 films qualify; if fewer than eight films are eligible, the award will not be handed out.
In this year's Oscar competition, 20 films qualified for consideration.
The Golden Globe for feature animation has only been handed out three times, each time to a Pixar movie: "Cars" in 2007, "Ratatouille" the following year, and "WALL-E" at the Globes ceremony earlier this year. Pixar's "Up" is certainly the favorite this year as well.
