Nominations for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards were announced Tuesday morning by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Leading the pack: "Up in the Air," with six nominations.

Also faring well: "Nine," with five noms, and "Inglourious Basterds" and "Avatar" with four each.

Director Jason Reitman's comedy starring George Clooney as a downsizer-for-hire will compete for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay and three acting nods:  a Best Actor – Drama nomination for  Clooney and a pair of Best Supporting Actress nods for Anna Kendrick and Vera Farmiga.

Two actresses, Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock, each won a pair of nominations – Streep’s two coming in the Best Actress – Comedy or Musical category for “It’s Complicated” and “Julie & Julia,” Bullock receiving one in that category for “The Proposal” and a second in the Best Actress – Drama category for “The Blind Side.”

Matt Damon also received two nominations, one for Best Supporting Actor for "Invictus," and one for Best Actor - Comedy or Musical for "The Informant!"

Nominees in the Best Motion Picture – Drama category were “Avatar,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Precious” and “Up in the Air.” In the Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical category, nods went to “(500) Days of Summer,” “The Hangover,” “It’s Complicated,” “Julie & Julia” and “Nine.”

Clint Eastwood’s “Invictus,” considered a likely Best Motion Picture- Drama nominee, did not receive a nod in that category, though Eastwood was named one of the five Best Director nominees, along with Kathryn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker,” James Cameron for “Avatar,” Jason Reitman for “Up in the Air” and Quentin Tarantino for “Inglourious Basterds.”

The 67th Golden Globes telecast, on Sunday, Jan. 17, will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.

Although the Globes show is one of the top-rated awards shows most years, the awards themselves are voted on by a small group of mostly freelance journalists who cover Hollywood for foreign newspapers and magazines. Currently, the HFPA has 84 active members and five lifetime members.
