Rained-Out Academy Screenings Rescheduled

Attention, Oscar voters: if you were at Saturday's AMPAS members' screening of "Invictus" that was halted midway through the film when a rain-induced power failure struck the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, the Academy has your back.  And if you were planning to attend the screening of "Nine" later that evening, but couldn't because it was canceled, there's now a makeup date.

Neither of the films can be rescheduled on a weekend, because those dates are all booked.  But on the first two evenings of next week, both will be shown in the Goldwyn, the 1,000-seat theater at the Academy's Beverly Hills headquarters:

"Nine": Monday, Dec. 21, 7:30 p.m.

"Invictus": Tuesday, Dec. 22, 7:30 p.m.

I may not love both of the films, but I can attest to this: They both deserve to be seen on a big screen like the one at the Goldwyn.  So set those "Invictus" screeners aside (Weinstein has yet to send out screeners for "Nine"), and make a date or two for next week.

The Odds is an informed, bemused, skeptical and authoritative look at all aspects of the Academy Awards race. Steve Pond, author of the L.A. Times bestseller The Big Show, has been covering this particular circus for more than two decades, much of that time as the only reporter with full backstage and rehearsal access to the Oscar show.
