Sony’s "Angels & Demons" is showing off some muscular legs overseas.
Domestically, the film dropped 53%, according to Hollywood.com.
"Demons" now stands at $198 million overseas; globally, it’s reached $280 million. This weekend saw a strong debut in Mexico — after being delayed due to the swine flu scare — and Norway.
"Demons" held off the debut week of Fox’s "Night at the Museum," which still garnered a robust $50 million in 93 territories. The first "Museum" pulled in $324 million overseas, which accounted for more than half of the worldwide total of $572 million.
The Ben Stiller adventure comedy landed the top spot in the U.K., France, Russia and Australia. It has yet to open in Asia and Mexico, all big markets that will propel it further.
"Terminator Salvation," only opened in selected Middle East markets and in Korea, where it raced to a $7 million opening.
Third-place ‘Star Trek" continues to be a solid performer overseas, where it grossed another $12 million in its third weekend in 58 markets. Overseas the film has hit $87.5 million. Globally, it’s at $271 million.
No. 4 was Fox’s "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." It grossed $7 million in 103 territories.
