‘Modern Family,’ ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Top DGA’s TV Nominees

Martin Scorsese, Barry Levinson among directors nominated for TV work

"Modern Family" and "Boardwalk Empire" were among the television shows nominated for the Directors Guild of America's top honors, the DGA announced on Tuesday morning.

Following Monday's announcement of the directors nominated in the DGA's feature film category, the guild added nominations in an additional eight television and commercial categories, with HBO's "The Pacific" also picking up multiple nominations. 

Boardwalk EmpireSeveral notable feature film directors were nominated for their work in television, including Martin Scorsese for "Boardwalk Empire" (left), Barry Levinson for the HBO movie "You Don't Know Jack," and Frank Darabont for "The Walking Dead."

In the Dramatic Series category, two different episodes of "Boardwalk Empire" are competing with "Mad Men," "The Walking Dead" and "Lost." On the Comedy Series side, "Modern Family" picked up a pair of nominations alongside "Glee," "Entourage" and "30 Rock."

The Movies for Television and Mini-series category was an all-HBO affair, with "Temple Grandin" and "You Don't Know Jack" going up against three separate episodes of "The Pacific."

The DGA also announced nominees in musical variety, reality programming, daytime serials, children's programs and commercials.

Last year, television awards went to Lesli Linka Glatter for "Mad Men," Jason Winer for "Modern Family" and Ross Katz for the HBO movie "Taking Chance."

DGA documentary nominations will be announced on Wednesday.

The DGA Awards will be handed out on January 29 at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland.
