Discovery Salvaging ‘Everest Jump Live’ Footage for Avalanche Documentary

Material shot for canceled special will be used to tell story of disaster that killed 13

Discovery will turn footage shot during preparations for the May 11 “Everest Jump Live” special into a documentary on the avalanche that claimed 13 lives, a network representative told TheWrap.

The network canceled the live special, which would have featured daredevil Joby Ogwyn jumping from the top of the world’s tallest mountain, after an avalanche struck early Friday morning local time that killed 13 sherpas.

A crew with NBC News, whose Peacock Productions was producing “Everest Jump Live” for Discovery, was on site at the time of the disaster and had already gathered footage in advance of the now scuttled live show.
