Disney Channel Star Jenna Ortega Gets Personal for Hispanic Heritage Month (Exclusive Video)

“Sharing the cameras with my family was very, very different,” the “Stuck in the Middle” star tells TheWrap

“Stuck in the Middle” star Jenna Ortega introduces her large family and their traditions in a short video airing Thursday on the Disney Channel as part of a week-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

In the first of a series of interstitial videos (above), Ortega explains that just like her character Harley on the show, who’s the middle child in a family with seven children, she herself is the middle child in a family with six children.

The video introduces the Ortega clan and their hobbies and traditions, including cooking authentic Mexican food and getting really competitive at soccer.

“Sharing the cameras with my family was very, very different,” Ortega told TheWrap of the experience shooting the special videos. “It was funny seeing them react to cameras being around. I love them very much. We’re very proud of who we are and where we come from.”

In addition to her role on “Stuck in the Middle,” Ortega also voices a character on the Disney Channel’s animated series “Elena of Avalor,” featuring the network’s first Latina princess and storylines influenced by diverse Latin and Hispanic cultures.

As part of Disney Channel’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, Ortega will host a week-long programming event (September 19-23) introducing episodes of “Elena of Avalor” and culminating with the premiere of a new episode on Friday, September 23.
