Disney to Close Pixar Canada

The office opened in 2010.

Disney will close Pixar Canada, its Vancouver base of operations north of the border, according to a spokesperson for Pixar.

The office opened in Spring 2010 and has less than 100 employees. It will cease operations immediately.

“The team at Pixar Canada is incredibly talented and we are so proud of the excellent work we have produced there,” the company said in a statement. “However, as we look at the creative and business needs of our studio, we’ve made the decision to refocus our efforts and resources under one roof in Emeryville and will be closing the studio in Vancouver.”

Pixar Canada produced several shorts, including “Air Mater” and “Small Fry,” but Pixar has decided its more economical to shutter it. Pixar was one of several studios lured into Canada by tax incentives, and neither Disney nor Pixar had any comment on whether it would open another office in the country.
