Disney/ABC Television Group Laying Off 175

Layoffs expected primarily at ABC Owned Stations

Disney/ABC Television Group is laying off about 175 people.

The layoffs, over the next week or so, will cut across the Disney/ABC Television Group, which employs about 7,600 people. The layoffs will come primarily in the ABC Owned Stations division.

“As technological advances continue to alter the competitive landscape and viewer habits, it’s incumbent upon us to stay ahead of the curve," the company said in a statement. "To that end, we’ve undergone a review of our organizational structures and processes, and have re-imagined and realigned certain areas and functions to gain efficiencies and better position us for future growth.”

The layoffs may be followed by some new job opportunities for people with different skills sets.

ABC previously went through more than 400 layoffs at ABC News. Since then, the division has made ambitious moves including a partnership with Yahoo and the creation of the new Fusion network.
