Kate Winslet plays the villain out to destroy all Divergent citizens in Summit’s first adaptation of Veronica Roth’s YA novel series
Shailene Woodley discovers she is dangerously different in the first trailer for “Divergent,” but luckily, her co-star Theo James is just like her.
“The Spectacular Now” star plays Tris Prior, a teenage girl who has to decide which of the five factions of society she must join when she comes of age. She chooses Dauntless — the warrior faction dedicated to protecting the walls surrounding futuristic Chicago — and falls for training instructor Four (James), while making a few enemies, like a jealous teenager played by Miles Teller.
Her biggest enemy in the possible franchise, however, is Jeanine Matthews (Winslet), a woman who wants to destroy all those citizens who are Divergent.
“Divergents threaten the system,” the antagonist explains in the trailer (above). “It won’t be safe until they are removed.”
Woodley and James fight back against the system that wants them gone when “Divergent” rolls into theaters on March 21.
