If you’ve ever dreamed of taking in some Los Pollos Hermanos, the meth-front/chicken chain run by Gus Fring on “Breaking Bad,” it’s time to do a Chicken Dance of joy. Hundreds of Angelenos flocked to a pop-up replica of a Los Pollos Hermanos franchise set up in Downtown L.A. to mark Fring’s arrival on the “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul.”
The replica fired up its grills to serve curly fries — but, surely to the disappointment of many, none of Walter White’s signature blue meth.
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I definitely have to check it out,’” Nate Elisha, who watched “Breaking Bad’s” five seasons “at least twice” told TheWrap.
Fring, as masterfully played by Giancarlo Esposito, used Los Pollos Hermanos on “Breaking Bad” to conceal his real business: a meth empire. Since “Better Call Saul” is set, for the most part, a few years before “Breaking Bad” took place, both businesses may not be as thriving as they were on “Breaking Bad.” But we’re just speculating.
The second season finale of “Better Call Saul” hinted at Gus’s return, as Mike Ehrmantraut realized someone was watching him — and had left him a mysterious note. Esposito tweeted in January: “I’m back!! What you’ve been waiting for, the rise of Gus is coming!”
The Tweet came complete with a mock ad for Los Pollos Hermanos, titled, “Taste the Family.”
The restaurant was jam packed with fans oohing and aahing at every detail. One AMC rep told TheWrap the pop-up was about 95 percent accurate.
