“Downton Abbey” won’t be returning to America until January, but a new clip from the upcoming fourth season gives fans an idea of what’s to come — and an idea of how hard Lady Mary Crawley is taking the death of her husband, Matthew.
In the clip, Crawley (Michelle Dockery) is asked to join her son Master George and a servant for a walk; she declines, but kisses the child on the forehead while intoning, “Poor little orphan.”
“He isn’t an orphan,” maid Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt) corrects her. “He’s got his mother. Orphans haven’t.”
“He isn’t poor either, come to that,” Crawley shoots back.
Mary’s current outlook on life, on the other hand….
