Detective Sergeant Gary Giroux of Toronto Police Homicide said that the motive for the killing is unknown.
“Whatever (animosity) or whatever baggage that Mr. Soares had with these two individuals or any part of a group that they’re associated to . . . at this point, it remains unknown,” Giroux said, according to the Toronto Star. Giroux added that Soares was “clearly the target of the attack.”
Drake addressed the death via Instagram, writing, “RIP to one of our family members…our brother… I still can’t even believe this morning was real. It was a honor to have shared years together and I will always keep your memory alive.”
