Drea De Matteo to Exit ‘Desperate Housewives’

She’ll remain through end of season, when Marc Cherry promises “an explosive finale”

Drea de Matteo will be leaving ABC’s "Desperate Housewives" in May, at the end of the season.

An ABC spokesperson confirmed that De Matteo originally signed on for just one season, so her exit comes as no surprise.

Producer Marc Cherry told Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello that the departure was planned all along.

He also suggested that the arrival of John Barrowman, starting in early April, will signal the beginning of the end for De Matteo’s character, fugitive Angie Bolen. Cherry promised Ausiello "an explosive finale."
