‘How to Train Your Dragon’ to Become Cartoon Network Series

After grossing $493.2 million worldwide, 3D title will now be a Cartoon Network series

DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon" is coming to the Cartoon Network.

On Tuesday, the Time Warner-owned cable channel announced that it had acquired worldwide broadcast rights to a live-action series based on the DreamWorks' CG-animated title, which grossed $493.2 million in worldwide theatrical release last spring.

"How to Train Your Dragon" is the second DreamWorks animated film to become a cable cartoon. An adaptation of "The Penguins of Madagascar" currently airs on Nickelodeon.

"'How to Train Your Dragon' has already captured the hearts and minds of audiences around the world and we are thrilled to join together with Cartoon Network to expand on this amazing movie in a television series of its own," said DreamWorks Animation COO Ann Daly in a statement.

No timetable as to the series' actual premiere date was released.

"How to Train Your Dragon" is due out on DVD and Blu-ray Oct. 15.
