According to an individual familiar with the casting, the actor, whose recent credits include "Justified" and the Netflix resurrection of "Arrested Development," will play Carl, who's described as "a charming and fun new addition in Sarah's (Lauren Graham) building."

Stamberg is slated to appear in at least five episodes of the series's 22-episode season, the individual said.

TheWrap was the first to report that Stamberg had been written out of Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva" due to budget constraints.

The upcoming season will also see the return of "Friday Night Lights" alum Matt Lauria, reprising his role as Ryan, a soldier dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder.
