"Moon" director Duncan Jones' thriller "Source Code" has been chosen as the opening night attraction at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival, SXSW organizers announced on Thursday. The film will have its world premiere at the festival, which runs from March 11 though March 19 in Austin, Texas.
The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a decorated soldier who participates in a secret government program that enables him to assume the identity of another man and repeatedly experience the last few minutes of that man's life.
The film also stars Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright and will be released by Summit Entertainment.
Jones' debut feature, "Moon," became a cult favorite after it too screened at SXSW. The director, the son of musician and actor David Bowie, is active on Twitter and helped launch an Internet campaign to get awards attention for that film's star, Sam Rockwell.
“We are delighted to welcome Duncan Jones back to SXSW," said festival producer Janet Pierson in a press release announcing the selection. "His debut 'Moon' showed an intelligence, skill, and exceptional use of limited resources that’s exactly the kind of filmmaking we love to support."
