‘Eastbound & Down’ Ending: Kenny Powers Retires for Real

“We never really had an interest in turning the show into anything traditional,” Danny McBride says

Kenny Powers is retiring for real: The third season of HBO's "Eastbound & Down" will be its last, star and co-creator Danny McBride says.

“We never really had an interest in turning the show into anything traditional,” McBride told a Paley Center audience Thursday, accoring to EW. "We approach each season like it’s one long movie.”

McBride said the series about racist, sexist, everything-ist pitcher Kenny Powers' life after the big leagues will return for its final run early next year.

Powers said he and fellow executive producer Jody Hill are writing the third and final season now, and that it will find Powers back in Shelby, N.C., after last season's excursion to Mexico, EW said.

McBride wouldn’t say whether "Winter's Bone" Oscar nominee John Hawkes will return as Kenny’s brother.
