Elisabeth Hasselbeck on ‘View’ Exit: It’s Been ‘Nothing Short of Extraordinary’

The co-host is leaving after 10 years to join "Fox & Friends" in September

Elisabeth Hasselbeck received a standing ovation as she walked out arm-in-arm with Barbara Walters on her final day on "The View."

Walters opened the show by saying that she's a little emotional — "or as that other Barbra says, 'a little verklempt.'"

Hasselbeck then told viewers what they already knew: "I'm really happy and excited to confirm that indeed I will be joining the 'Fox & Friends' team in September. … Today is officially my last day at 'The View'."

Hasselbeck thanked the crew before going around the table to thank and praise her co-hosts, including an absent Sherri Shepard. While Hasselbeck had very kind words for each, she called Walters "the best in the business" and said she "couldn't ask for a better leader and mentor."

The announcement ends Hasselbeck's decade-long tenure on the show. She said the last 10 years have "been nothing short of extraordinary" and she wished her eventual replacement the best.

The other hosts then weighed in on their fond feelings for the departing Hasselbeck. Joy Behar joked to her conservative co-host: "Fox, gee — won't you be a fish out of water there?"

Behar spoke about the times that the two have famously gotten into spats but maintained their friendship. That was a common theme around the table as the compliments kept coming.
