The “Best photo ever” also has 1.3 million favorites

Ellen DeGeneres’ group Oscars selfie shattered Barack Obama’s previous Twitter retweet record before the awards show had even ended.

By Monday morning, at the time of this posting, Ellen’s “Best photo ever” had more than 2.6 million retweets and was still growing. It also had more than 1.3 million favorites — and those figures aren’t even counting all of the mentions and Internet shares and memes that instantly followed.

The selfie photo, taken by “American Hustle” star Bradley Cooper, features Cooper, Ellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o (plus her brother), Channing Tatum, Jared Leto (kind of), Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts. Others tried to squeeze in, but couldn’t make the frame.

The previous record holder from President Obama that simply read “Four more years,” garnered 778,801 retweets.
