Try Not to Cringe: The 6 Emmy Moments That Fell Flat

Gay jokes, Kim Kardashian singing, too much Betty White … the awards show had tons of moments that dared us to look away

Whether it was Betty White’s sex drive, announcers with corny one-liners, or gay jokes that wouldn’t make an eighth grader chuckle, TheWrap calls out the worst moments of TV’s big night.

1) All Those Gay Jokes: Neil Patrick Harris, Lauren Graham and even the reliably funny Stewie from “Family Guy” all saw their gay jokes land with a thud. Perhaps that’s because the punch lines mostly consisted of calling another, presumably heterosexual actor, gay (insert Jimmy Fallon, Matthew Perry).

2) Kim Kardashian, Singer: The reality show performer/sex tape star showed off her crooning chops and they were, well, lacking. Teaming up for a duet with host Jimmy Fallon to introduce the reality show awards, the buxom C-lister made her “Carl’s Jr.” ads look like high art.

3) Betty White, So Overexposed: She was cute on the Snickers ad, hilarious on “SNL” and the best thing in “The Proposal,” but the frosted haired actress is beginning to feel stale. Basically she just shows up and says something dirty and we're expected to laugh because she’s old.

4) Questions to Nominees in Categories We Don’t Care About: If someone wrote a drama series or directed an episode of a sitcom, it’s what’s known as awards filler. Don’t prolong the agony with unfunny bits where contenders say what their moms wanted them to be when they grew up. Just hand out the hardware.

5.) Announcers Who Quip: Hey, Voice of God .. just tell us if it’s Jane Lynch’s first win or “The Daily Show”s’ 20th, Leave the funny stuff to actual comedians.

6) John Krasinski Forgets His Lines: Announcing the best supporting actress in a TV movie award, “The Office” actor appeared to lose his place on the teleprompter. What followed was a pregnant pause that seemed to go on and on and on.
