‘Transparent’ Emmy Winner Jill Soloway Says ‘We Have a Trans Civil Rights Problem’ (Video)

Writer and producer gives shout out to her “moppa” in accepting best comedy director speech

“Transparent” creator Jill Soloway used her acceptance speech for the best comedy direction Emmy to call for transgender equality.

“We don’t have a trans tipping point yet, we have a trans civil rights problem,” Soloway said. She then urged viewers to visit the website TransEquality.org and sign up to support the proposed Trans Equality Bill.

Soloway also thanked her father, a transgender woman. “Something interesting about my moppa, Carrie, she could tomorrow go and try to find an apartment, and in 32 states it would be legal for the landlord to look her in the eye and say, ‘We don’t rent to trans people.’”

The TransEquality.org website crashed immediately following Soloway’s appearance.
