‘Empire’ Strikes Out at This Year’s Emmys: Wrap Trends (Video)

On a night when HBO received three times the nominations of the second most-feted network (ABC) during Thursday’s Emmy Awards presentation, it seemed like there were plenty of honors to go round … just not for television’s most popular drama.

“Empire,” whose ratings rose every week from its series debut to its season finale, received a woeful three Emmy nominations — and two of them were for costumes. In fact, nine of the 12 most nominated shows are among the whitest imaginable — “Game of Thrones,” American Horror Story,” “Olive Kitteridge,” “House of Cards,” “Mad Men,” “Transparent,” “Veep,” “Dancing With the Stars” and “Downton Abbey” couldn’t find the ‘hood with Google Maps.

If it had just put “Boardwalk” in front of its name, Fox’s breakout hit would have had over three times the nominations (and one-seventh the viewers). For more, watch the latest Wrap Trends!
