Summit in Talks to Distribute ‘Ender’s Game’

The studio is in negotiations to co-finance and distribute a Gavin Hood-directed adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s youth-targeted novel about (yep, you guessed it) a dystopian future

Summit Entertainment is finishing up negotiations to co-finance "Ender's Game," Orson Scott Card's 1985 sci-fi novel.

Gavin Hood, of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," will direct.

In addition to co-financing, Summit will handle U.S. distribution for the film. Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales, beginning at the Cannes Film Market.

The novel is set in earth's future.

Our planet has been twice invaded by the Formics, an insectoid alien race. As Earth prepares for a third invasion, it drafts a boy, the brilliant Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, to train for intergalactic battle.

"Ender's Game" has been translated into 28 languages.

K/O Paper Products, OddLot Entertainment and Digital Domain are production partners on the project. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing through K/O.

Gigi Pritzker and Linda McDonough are producing through their OddLot, along with Card and Lynn Hendee.

OddLot's Bill Lischak, K/O's Mandy Safavi and Digital Domain's Cliff Plumer and Ed Ulbrich are executive producing.

With Summit's "Twilight Saga" nearing its final installment, the studio is looking for its next franchise.
