The magazine is providing a new platform for “superfans” who want to be writers
Entertainment Weekly readers who want to try their luck at entertainment reporting have a brand new opportunity.
The publication is launching a community platform ala HuffPost/BuzzFeed that will open its doors to guest contributors.
EW describes the new section as a “blog featuring superfans with passion and unique voices.”
“Our editors have invited a select group of contributors who aren’t satisfied to merely watch TV — they are driven to post and share about it,” the site said.
Digiday reports that EW has been finding its community writers through social media and journalism schools and the site allows interested readers to sign up to contribute.
The caveat for aspiring entertainment writers of course is the gig is low paying and the site does warn that “during the pilot phase, we may not be inviting many new contributors, but we will keep you posted as we grow the EW Community.”
EW’s sister publication, People, launched a celebrity-driven platform earlier in the week, and depending on the success of “The Community,” similar sections may expand to other Time Inc. properties.
