‘Equalizer’ Director Antoine Fuqua Signs Production Deal With IM Global

The filmmaker is currently shooting the Jake Gyllenhaal boxing drama “Southpaw” for the Weinstein Co.

“The Equalizer” director Antoine Fuqua and his production company Fuqua Films has signed a production partnership with IM Global, it was announced Tuesday by IM Global CEO Stuart Ford and Fuqua.

Under the pact, the indie financier will develop, produce and finance feature projects alongside Fuqua and his producing partner Kat Samick, as well as provide the shingle with business affairs and back-office support.

Fuqua’s “The Equalizer” had its world premiere Sunday night at the Toronto International Film Festival. Fuqua previously directed “Training Day” and “Olympus Has Fallen.” He’s currently filming the Jake Gyllenhaal boxing drama “Southpaw” for the Weinstein Co. and is attached to direct MGM’s “Magnificent Seven” remake starring his frequent collaborator Denzel Washington.

IM Global is in post-production on a trio of self-financed pics: action thriller “Autobahn” starring Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Ben Kingsley; contagion thriller “Viral,” directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joust; and supernatural thriller “Incarnate” starring Aaron Eckhart. The company is also in active pre-production on Billy Ray’s “The Secret In Their Eyes” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Gwyneth Paltrow and Julia Roberts.

The deal was brokered by CAA. Attorney Wendy Kirk of Ziffren Brittenham represented Fuqua Films while IM Global’s head of business affairs Deborah Zipser and production Ppresident Matt Jackson negotiated on behalf of the company.
