Eric Trump took to Twitter early Monday morning to bash golf writer James Dodson’s claims that in 2014 Eric mentioned Russians funding Trump-owned golf courses.

President Trump is no stranger to using Twitter to discredit the media, often referring to CNN as “fake news” and the New York Times as “failing.” Eric said the Dodson story is “another example of why there is such a deep mistrust of the media”

It all started when WBUR interviewed the golf writer, who described a round he played with Eric during the Obama administration at Trump National Charlotte. Dodson said that when he asked who was paying for the courses, Eric replied, “Well, we don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.”

Dodson said Eric continued: “Oh, yeah. We’ve got some guys that really, really love golf, and they’re really invested in our programs. We just go there all the time.”

In addition to Twitter, Eric also spoke with the New York Post to defend his family.

“It’s a recollection from some guy three years ago through a third person,” Eric told the Post. “We own our courses free and clear… “We have zero ties to Russian investors.”
