‘Idol’ Fantasia Barrino Overdoses Amid Sex-Tape Scandal

The singer’s manager says her injuries are “not life threatening” and that “she will be released from the hospital soon”

"American Idol" champ Fantasia Barrino is "stable" but still hospitalized after overdosing on pills while in the midst of a sex tape scandal.

Barrino was named in custody documents filed last week by a Charlotte, North Carolina, woman named Paula Cook, who claimed that the singer has been having an affair with her husband, Antwaun Cook, since at least August 2009.

Cook also alleged that Barrino and Antwaun filmed sex tapes documenting the affair.

Barrino's manager, Brian Dickens, issued a press release on Tuesday, which said that Barrino "took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid" because she "was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention."

Dickens said Barrino's injuries "are not life threatening."

"Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon," Dickens said.

According to TMZ, which broke the story of the overdose, Police were called to Barrino's home Monday night where she was found in "serious" condition and taken to the hospital.

Dickens also addressed the claims made by Paula Cook. He admitted that Barrino and Antwaun Cook "dated on and off for about 11 months," but he said that Antwaun Cook assured Barrino that he was separated from his wife.

"He told her he and Mrs. Cook separated in the late summer of 2009," Dickens said.

Barrino won the third season of "American Idol" in 2004. Since then she has released two albums and appeared on Broadway in the musical version of "The Color Purple." Her third album is due out in August.
