Exclusive: Sandy Climan Steps Down as CEO of 3ality Digital

After four years, the industry veteran is stepping into a strategic role as the company has grown revenue 10-fold in the past year

sandy climanEntertainment industry veteran Sandy Climan is stepping down as CEO of the 3D technnology company 3ality Digital, the company announced on Tuesday.

Climan, who has been CEO for the past four years, will be moving into a strategic advisor role, according to a company news release.

3ality Digital is owned by the Modell family, with David Modell the chairman of the board.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure with 3ality Digital and the opportunity to work with the talented professionals and engineers at the company,” said Climan in a prepared statement. “Having achieved the many goals I set for myself at 3ality Digital, I now look forward to my new association with the Modells.”

 “We are grateful to Sandy for the leadership and guidance he has provided 3ality Digital as its first CEO,” said 3ality Digital Chairman David Modell, “and we look forward to working with him in his new capacity as a strategic advisor to Modell Ventures.”

The company has grown to revenues of $30 million this year as 3D has exploded in the theatrical market. The company is seeking to double revenues next year.

A former CAA executive in the 1980s, Climan advised clients such as Sony, Matsushita, Coca-Cola, Seagram, and several Regional Bell Operation Companies.  He also handled such clients as Danny DeVito, Robert De Niro, Robert Redford, Kevin Costner, and Michael Mann.

 In 1995, Mr. Climan took a two-year leave to become the Executive Vice President & President of Worldwide Business Development for Universal Studios, overseeing corporate international strategy, strategic marketing, and five studio operation divisions.

Climan will advise Modell Ventures through his investment and advisory business, Entertainment Media Management, LLC (EMM).
