Facebook Buys e-Book Publisher Push Pop Press (Video)

The talent responsible for Al Gore’s interactive “Our Choice” makes its way to social media

Facebook is diving head first into the world of online publishing with its purchase of Push Pop Press, an iPad book designer founded by former Apple employees whose first e-book was Al Gore’s interactive “Our Choice.” at the 2011 TED conference in February.

Though the social networking site is not planning to get into digital publishing, “the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories,” Push Pop Press co-founders Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris said on their site.

"We’re taking our publishing technology and everything we’ve learned and are setting off to help design the world’s largest book, Facebook,” they added.

Matas and Tsinteris have extensive experience between them developing Apple’s interfaces across Mac and iOS. Matas’ resumé includes the Photos app for iPhone, as well as Photo Booth for Mac.

Introduced at the 2011 TED conference in February, the Gore "Our Choice" iPad/iPhone app includes interactive animations, adjustable page-turning and navigation, digital mapping of images, audio and more than an hour of documentary footage.
