Facebook Back Up After Hours-Long Outage

Facebook, like Gmail earlier on Monday, was not responding to users attempting to log on

Facebook users were unable to post about their puppies or share videos of their toddlers Monday, following an outage on the site that came on the same day a Gmail outage kept users from their inboxes. Service was restored within an hour.

Getty ImagesFacebook servers crashed at about 2:40 p.m. PT after the social network reconfigured some of its domain-name service, the part of the site that allows computers around the world to log on.

"Earlier today we made a change to our DNS infrastructure and that change resulted in some people being temporarily unable to reach the site," the company said in a statement. "We detected and resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100 percent. We apologize for any inconvenience."
